Safety First: COVID-19 prevention practices in effect!
Basic Health Guidelines

Please consider putting dog training on hold if you are considered to be in a high-risk group or if you live with someone or take care of someone considered to be high-risk. Consider online training. It can be effective and helpful – especially if you feel like your dog needs help now. DogWould can provide referrals for great online training programs.

Please do not come to classes or lessons if:
  • You’ve had symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 10 days. Symptoms include fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and new muscle aches or headache.
  • You’ve been directed by Public Health to self-isolate.
  • You have had contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19.
  • If you or anyone in your home is ill, your private training session can be postponed - we can wait to resume in-person sessions.

If I am not feeling well or have been in contact with anyone who is sick, I will contact you to reschedule your session.

Masks and/or appropriate face coverings will be worn by instructor and students in all group classes and individual lessons.

Here’s how you can help:
  • Wear a face covering.
  • Use physical distancing, when inside or outside.
  • Wash, wash, and wash your hands.
  • Have plenty of food rewards ready for training your dog so that you do not have to borrow from me or someone else at the class.
  • Bring your own chair to and from class so you do not have to borrow one at the class.
  • Payments and paperwork can be submitted electronically in order to limit points of contact. In person submission of payments and paperwork will also be accepted.

Students should wait in their cars until just before their appointment time, then toilet their dog in the designated area, mask up, and enter the training space.

If we have learned one thing during this pandemic, it is that things can change, even in the space of a day. I will update this page as requirements change. Private sessions or group classes may need to be suspended. Flexibility is the key.

If you have any questions or concerns about safety at any point, please let me know.

Here’s to good health and happy training!

All-Breed Group Dog Training Classes

Dogs and owners of all ages are welcome.
You may register your dog(s) in group classes as many times as you wish. Regular training keeps your dog's skills sharp and provides great mental enrichment.

If you're interested in a specific group class, but you're not sure if your dog is ready, email dogwould@live.ca and ask! For returning students, a recommendation can be given based on your dog's previous group class experience, and for new students, please send along a detailed description of your dog's training level.

Please review the Policies page for important information about DogWould group class policies.
Check out the FAQs page as well!

You can begin the registration process by email. Please consult the Policies page for registration information.
Requirements to reserve your space in a class include a completed registration form and payment in full of class fees.
You are welcome to attend a group class meeting to watch prior to enrolling your dog with DogWould if you want to see what it is about.

A minimum of three confirmed students is necessary to run a group class, so get your friends and their dogs involved, too! Dogs from the same family can be registered in the same class, provided they each have a handler. For all classes except the Manners classes, you can enroll two dogs under one handler provided you bring a crate to put your alternate dog in while you are working with the other. Classes listed on this page are available by request, and additional classes can be available - make your interests known to make sure that the classes you want from DogWould are offered!

Gift Certificates are available for all group classes! Please contact me for further information.

Please keep in mind that when you register for a DogWould group class, you should consider than just the one meeting a week you attend with the rest of the group. Success in training your dog takes commitment and time set aside to practice with your dog each and every day!

Please also note that dogs exhibiting aggression toward humans or other dogs, or dogs who exhibit other dangerous behaviours, are not allowed in the group classes. Dogs who are deemed mildly reactive toward humans or other dogs will be required to wear a basket muzzle during classes for safety. Please ask about recommended muzzles and positive muzzle training practices. Dogs who are severely aggressive or reactive toward humans or other dogs are not ready for group classes.

Clickers are welcome in any DogWould Class. If you would like to learn how to use a Clicker training device, please schedule a private lesson.

For the terms regarding DogWould Group Classes, see the Terms and Guarantee page.

Manners and Foundations for Canine Companions

Picture
You and your dog will be introduced to concepts including canine language, self-control and handler focus, walking on leash without pulling, Sit, Down, and Stand Stays,  recalls ("Come"), release commands, care and general handling, and proper socialization.

These classes show you techniques and foundation exercises that will help you mould your dog into a wonderful household companion that is a pleasure to live with, making life happier for you both, and repaying your efforts tenfold! These classes are also great refresher courses - excellent opportunities to polish your basics with a new group of distractions.

Each group has dogs in different levels of development. This means that some dogs may be loud, nervous, hyperactive, reserved, or young puppies needing life experience. These groups are good places for young dogs and older dogs to safely learn how to ignore a variety of distractions. If you are not comfortable being in a class with dogs that may require extra patience, these are not the classes for you.
